Snorkeling at Nāpili Bay

Nāpili Bay sits quiet on Maui’s west side, tucked between Kapaula and Kahana. It’s the kind of spot you find once, then keep coming back to. No big hotels. No loud beach bars. Just soft white sand, calm mornings, and water so clear you can count fish scales.
The bay is north-facing, which means protection from most of the strong south swells. Mornings are best—before the tradewinds kick in.
What You Can Expect To See in the Water

Once you step in, the reef comes alive fast. There’s coral not far from shore and plenty of reef fish flitting through. You’ll see yellow tangs, parrotfish, saddle wrasse, maybe a trumpetfish cruising by.
Honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) love this bay. You’ll often spot them gliding slow, resting on the reef, or popping up for air. Give them space—by law and out of respect.
Visibility is usually good unless the surf picks up. Even beginners will feel comfortable here thanks to the mellow entry and sandy bottom.
